St. Anton and Innsbruck

Kyle, Sue and I went to St. Anton's in March to ski with our perennial European vacation buddy family, the Greenes.  Justin was still in Chile and wasn't able to join us this year (Chile is its own epic adventure and I hope to be able to post some of his photos soon).  But before we got to St. Anton's we had to make a stop in another country, Lichtenstein - who wouldn't want to have a cuppa in Lichtenstein?

St. Anton's is in the handle of Austria, about 2 hours from Zurich, Switzerland.  While we were there we skied St. Anton, St. Chritophe, Zurs and Lech, which are all interconnected mountains and small villages.  We got a guide while we were there and did some off piste backcountry skiing.  We ate and drank in some phenomenal on mountain places. Europe is famous for its 2 hour lunches, which I have gotten used to over the years, as I am more of a Clif bar kind of guy and want to snowboard as much as I can.   One great restaurant we went to, the Hospiz Alm, if famous for its ribs (yum yum).  It also has a slide you ride down to the bathroom and the worlds biggest collection of magnums of wine and champagne. We met our friends the Boeskys (Kyle and Ryan went to preschool together) there and toured the cellar together.  The other on mountain fun is the après ski scene.  The Mooser Viert claims to have started the après ski scene and is a fun zoo. It closes around 9pm after which a lot of people have to find their way down the hill in a slightly altered state.  It continued to amaze me how many people were still in their ski boots each night at 11pm.

Midweek we took a day off and went to Innsbruck, which has been the host of the Winter Olympics a couple times.  Great old city featuring a lot of classic architecture. It was a great week.  Poor Kyle was loaded with winter gear on his way back to the states as Sue and I were headed south of the equator directly from Zurich.  Enjoy the pics.

The crowds at the Mooser Wirt are crazy. Is that a bar?
